Just what it says on the tin

I really must stop making suggestions if I’m not sure how serious I am. People take them seriously.

Today Theresa Knopp defends her PhD thesis. In Finland defences are public, so people go along to listen, and judge the performance of the examiner. I suggested (and this is the bit I’m not sure I was serious about) that someone could live-blog the defence. To my surprise this was taken seriously, and Cano volunteered to do it.

So, from about noon our time (that’s 10am GMT), Cano will (hopefully!) be live-blogging the defence at the EGRU blog. I might join in over here, I haven’t decided yet. I wonder if we can persuade him to live-blog the party afterwards.

And, for those of you who can’t wait, here’s a silly blog post about global warming. I don’t know who the writer is, he seems to be a student in my department. God stuff, anyway.

Thee was a change of plan on the live blogging, but Theresa is doing a good job, as is the opponent.

My Eeeeeee’s battery is awful so no live blogging from me, but at least I got to check the test score from Chennai.

I think if you stump up a bit of cash, you may be able to get a 6-hour battery for your eeE… that’s now fitted as standard.

Thanks. I’ll have to look into it: 6 hours should be enough.

Finally finished reading the global warming blog post – quite brilliant, thanks for the link, Bob.

2016: In Finland, ‘winter depression’ is eclipsed by ‘depression because there isn’t a winter anymore’.

Is there snow again right now? My friend said last weekend that it had started raining and all snow was gone, and that last year’s Christmas was a ‘black Christmas’..

I only discovered Masks of Eris recently, but it’s a little gem.

Alas the snow’s gone (in Helsinki at least). But compared to the last few years it’s looking good for snow – we’ve already had some, and it’s getting cold.
