Interests

Using nanomaterials and nanoscale design of materials in practical engineering applications is my research goal. To realize the goal, a thorough understanding of structural mechanics at the nanoscale is essential. Molecular simulations play an integral role in my research. I use molecular statics and dynamics to study structural mechanisms at the nanoscale. Multifunctional materials like shape memory alloys and piezo-electric crystals also interest me. Current molecular simulation methods though useful pose many crippling limitations. Developing new molecular simulation techniques for engineering applications is another aspect of my research.

Projects

  • Developing molecular simulation techniques for engineering applications
  • Designing manufacturing techniques to infuse nanomaterials in conventional composites
  • Enhancing compressive behavior of polymers using nanoclay
  • Toughening polymeric composites using nanoclay
  • Investigating scale effects on fracture behavior in nanocomposites
