Digital content can be seen from both macro (aggregations of collections) and micro (focused collections) perspectives. In my work as communications director for Fedora Commons and the National Science Digital Library I will post news, notes, and images on these pages from somewhere in between these two vantage points.

Content Sausage by Carol Minton Morris
Excellent sausage can be made from unsavory bits of the whole hog, but does anyone really want to see how that's done? Expect posts here from a web content maker's kitchen prepared for those who are (mysteriously) eager to see how web content is made.

Anyone who has ever randomly opened a book or a web site understands that a single chunk of information is made up of many different parts and pieces that can be related, that do not necessarily have a beginning, middle and end, and that can be recombined in an infinite number of ways to make new meaning. Photograph by Jon Crispin_With the help of the ever-expanding community of Fedora open source repository software users and developers I have had the privilege of seeing unique global knowledge centers create durable digital collections that contain almost every kind of content across scientific and humanities discipline boundaries in service to user communities. Their collective leadership has convinced me that scholarship is likely to be a different kind of enterprise going forward.
In my work with the National Science Digital Library community I have seen a “24/7” networked library expand to include a digital repository of over 3 million digital objects layered with interactive services for instructors, teachers and students who are interested in creating educational context and opportunity around online science, mathematics, engineering and mathematics resources.
In between information architecture, content creation, education and the viral spread of the parts and pieces of digital objects throughout the web, I will report on events and developments that may be of interest to those who find themselves somewhere along the many trails leading towards evolving concepts of global knowledge.
