    • London street artist Banksy on the cover of Science

      Thursday, 13 Mar 2008 - 11:22 GMT

Researchers dream of getting the cover image on Nature or Science. Notorious graffer Banksy has now achieved this without a single published paper.

      The justification runs as follows:

An example of “art” by self-styled guerrilla artist Banksy, as seen in East London in November 2007. Human behavior that would be characterized as antisocial punishment can also be called art; prosocial institutions, most notably the campaign Keep Britain Tidy, refer to Banksy’s work as vandalism.

      Bizarre.

It does seem a strange choice of image to illustrate the article that the justification links to. Very striking though – I definitely noticed Science this week!

That’s interesting. I think I’ll have to take a closer look.

Maybe Banksy is appropriate for the cover of Science: he’s clearly into chemistry after mounting his latest mural is on the wall of a pharmacy in Islington!

I’m a big fan of Banksy. He is a splash of colour in a dull and self-absorbed world. He makes you think.

          I hope Science paid him.
