Fans of the The Triffids and/or the smell of decomposing meat should head to the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens this week.

The tree-sized Titan arum has one of the largest flowers in the world – and it has just bloomed. The species is famous for its obnoxious stench, said to resemble the odour of a rotting corpse. That hasn’t stopped hundreds of sightseers from visiting this wonder of nature.

The image is from James Morley, who manages Kew’s website and also happens to be handy with a camera.
