Postmortem: 2nd Nature Network London drinks session

Despite the CL semi-final (Man U 3-2 Milan, although you probably picked that up from the Metro this morning) and tube delays, a lot of you showed up at The Lamb yesterday. Less louche than a salon but less formal than speed networking, these evenings are turning out to be a good way of getting conversation going amongst academic scientists, biotech professionals, publishing/editorial people (and not just from NPG, I promise), organisers of scientific events, librarians, policymakers… I might be missing some out.
These days my memory is getting more and more like a colander… however this morning I found that I could still recall some conversations from yesterday evening: the current research progess of my former department, some trivia on triathlons (did you know that the order was swimming – cycling – running?), good Japanese supermarkets in London, moving-to-London experiences of postdoctoral scientists, plus the fantastic taste of the 1729 steak-and-mushroom pie (named for the year the pub was founded).
Thank you for coming along and bringing your friends. We hope to see you again at the next one (last Wednesday of each month). Any comments/suggestions can be posted below…

AND there were hot guys there.
No, actually seriously, the room was quite warm with all those people. Li-Kim, can you ask the lovely bar staff at The Lamb for some fans next time?
Oh, and I love my new nature-network pen, I promise I’ll carry it with me everywhere.

Oh yeah! I’d forgotten about the pen (it was very nice, I assure readers).
Thanks for organising the pub night, Li-Kim. I’ll bring some more people along next month.

Hello. I just joined to the event for the first time as I, luckily, had a colleague to bring me with. I’ve been a postdoc research scientist for one and a half year in London, but I had never met that many people from so diverse fields here at a time! Li-Kim, thanks for telling me about the Royal Institution event at the Royal College of Surgeons (right next door from our institute), I think I got a ticket… Actually, when I looked at the website, I noticed that the Christmas lectures were also very famous in Japan (where I originally came from). The series of lectures were translated into Japanese and broadcasted every year, and I enjoyed them a lot.
I registered to the Network yesterday, and this is my first comment to post. Let me see how it works… and, again, thanks for organizing the pub meeting!

Welcome to the Network, Masafumi. Feel free to dip into any conversations that interest you…or start your own.
Good to meet you a few days ago.

There were pens? I’m so there next time.

Hey, I did not get my Nature Network pen … :-(
Seriously, I participated on both beer/wine/juice-NNL-sessions and both were excellent! And different. People from all-around-the-world, science, non-science, even fashion (sic! LiKim).... diversity which even a nature (general meaning) would be proud of. And we (humans) can hardly reduce it by increased CO2 emissions. I am sure Matt and LiKim will bring more and more interesting people – regardsless of global warming, CL or ice-hockey World Cup-final or total closure of London tube, buses, taxis and bikes ….
The only tough thing will be to wait till next session.
