DESCRIPTION:Nonlinear realisations provide a method for constructing a fiel
d theory with an aribitrary symmetry group. Study of the coset symmetries o
f 11D supergravity dimensionally reduced on a torus suggested the conjectur
e that 11D supergravity can be formulated as a NLR of the infinite dimensio
 nal Kac-Moody algebra E11.
\n
\nI will introduce NLRs\, some aspects of Kac
-Moody algebras\, and then use this to demonstrate some supergravity calcul
ations that are greatly simplified in the E11 approach. No previous knowled
ge of NLRs or KM algebras will be assumed.
