DESCRIPTION:_The sea crashes into Kew Bridge Steam Museum_
\n
\nKew Bridge
Steam Museum is pleased to announce the launch of a new exhibition\, Explor
e the Sea Floor\, opening on 9 January through 2 March 2008. This interacti
ve exhibition dives into the sea-bed and reveals the unusual creatures that
  live there.
\n
\nHave you always wondered what lurks beneath the sea? Scie
ntific research is often thought to be rather mysterious with the results s
hrouded in secrecy. However\, a sea-bed mapping project\, led by scientists
from the National Museum Wales and the British Geological Survey is now re
vealing its discoveries to all. The teams investigated the sea-bed of the O
uter Bristol Channel\, a potential source of marine sand for the constructi
on industry\, where very little up-to-date information was available on eit
her the sea bed or the life that lives there. The exhibition explores the s
cientific study and the potential value and future use of natural resources
 :
\n
\nExplore:
\n·	Become a marine scientist!
\n·	Meet the animals that
 live there
\n·	Explore a virtual sea-bed
\n·	Fun activities relevant to t
he National Curriculum Key Stage 2\, 3 and 4
\n
\nSee:
\n·	Enlarged model
 of a Sand Mason Worm
\n·	Animals of the sea-bed including a sea fan and se
a slugs from the British Isles
\n·	Sonar Towfish - research equipment
\n·
A sampling grab - research equipment
\n·	Sediment column (showing differ
ent types of sea-bed gravel and sand)
\n
\nErnest Buchner\, Museum Director
said: “This new and exciting exhibition aims to make marine science acce
ssible to all. The content is based directly on the results of the surveys
carried out by marine scientists\, and is part of the larger environmental
issue in England and Wales of conservation of biodiversity balanced with th
e need to make use of natural resources. Accurate scientific information he
lps us to make those balanced judgements.”
\n
\nAlso available:
\n·	Visi
tor operated model of the Boulton & Watt engine
\n·	Water For Life Gallery

\n·	Giant beam and rotative engines in steam at the weekends
\n·	Museum
 café and shop
\n·	Education facilities and group visits
\n·	Partial whee
