DESCRIPTION:A series of three cabaret-style events taking place in the Foru
 m at Wellcome Collection promoting connections between poetry and the medic
 al sciences\, providing a platform for new poets\, and attracting new audie
 nces to poetry.  The title of the series comes from a Kenyan folk tale wher
 e a rich man’s wife wasted away despite having every material need satisf
 ied while a poor man’s wife prospered because he fed her “the meat of t
 he tongue” by reciting poems\, telling stories and singing songs.  These 
 events take place on the second Thursday of the month\; 13 March\, 10 April
  and 8 May from 19.00 – 20.30\n\n\n*_Thursday 8 May_*\n_Theme:The Bod
 y_\nPoetry about the human body\, its rhythms\, desires\, senses and dysfu
 nctions\, featuring:\n• Penelope Shuttle – A much acclaimed poet whose
  work includes a quasi-scientific study with the late poet Peter Redgrove a
 bout menstruation called ‘The Wise Wound.’ \n• Tishani Doshi – win
 ner of the Forward Prize in 2006 for her collection ‘Countries of the Bod
 y’\, she writes brilliantly about the body of the senses.  \n• Luke Ke
 nnard – A successful younger poet\, shortlisted for the Forward Best Poet
 ry Collection Prize in 2007\, whose work offers surreal perspectives on the
  body\, and on poetry.\n
