DESCRIPTION:_Organiser: Ricardo Morilla_
\n
\nFlow cytometry has been used
in Haemato-Oncology for the diagnosis of Leukaemia and lymphoma for the las
t thirty years. During this period\, this complex discipline has played a m
ajor part in haematological malignancies classification\, diagnosis and pro
gnosis. There is a need to focus on the continuous training of operators an
d scientists because of the constant evolution of instrumentation\, lasers\
, fluorochromes and applications in the clinical laboratory. The aim of the
meeting is to discuss the main aspects of the use of flow cytometry for im
munophenotyping. The meeting will be of interest to both people who are new
in the field and those with some experience\, including scientists\, techn
icians\, doctors and trade representatives. The intention is to address top
ics in a friendly and stimulating educational atmosphere and the popular Fl
ow Quiz is designed to encourage audience participation. Topics such as ins
trumentation will be discussed by Derek Davies concentrating on lasers and
fluorochromes\, Steve Couzens will present clinical case reports to illustr
ate data interpretation and diagnosis in a clinical context. Representative
s from the commercial world will be available to talk about their most rece
 nt instruments and reagents.
\n
\nA UK Neqas representative will discuss t
he new leukaemia diagnosis scheme\, Dr. Freeman\, from U. of Birmingham Med
ical School will report on AML minimal residual disease\, and Professor Cat
ovsky will discuss new prognostic markers in CLL. Other speakers are still
to be confirmed to discuss topics of current interest such as stem cells. I
t is hoped that this meeting will attract as many interested colleagues as
usual\, and that we will be able to continue with this instructional meetin
g and maintain it as an established annual event.
\n
\nThis meeting is acc
redited by the IBMS and attracts 6 CPD points.
\n
\n
\n
