DESCRIPTION:NIACE has been leading on the Commission for Disabled Staff in 
 Lifelong Learning.  This conference will launch the interim report and subs
 equent consultation period of the Commission and will give participants the
  opportunity to be the first to hear the interim findings and recommendatio
 ns.  \n\n \n\nThe Equality Challenge Unit supports the Higher Education
  sector in its mission to realise the potential of all staff and students w
 hatever their race\, gender\, disability\, sexual orientation\, religion or
  age\, to the benefit of those individuals\, higher education institutions 
 and society.  It will report on important developments for staff working in
  the Higher Education sector. Lifelong Learning UK will report on recent de
 velopments that will affect the whole workforce\, but most particularly on 
 the workforce strategy\, the new Occupational Standards for teachers\, the 
 management of staff data particularly that which refers to diversity and di
 sability.  \n\n \n\nDealing with sickness and long-term absence is an i
 ssue that requires great sensitivity and understanding on behalf of both li
 ne managers and HR staff.  The Association of Colleges will report on the i
 ssues for Human Resource Mangers and what has been identified as real opera
 tional concerns in supporting disabled staff.\n\n \n\nEnsuring effectiv
 e management and leadership is one of the cornerstones of developing a dive
 rse and inclusive workforce.  The Centre for Excellence in Leadership will 
 discuss strategies for both promoting good practice in employing and suppor
 ting disabled staff\, but also initiatives to encourage disabled staff into
  leadership roles.\n\n \n\nThe conference is aimed at senior managers\,
  Human Resources staff\, CPD managers and teachers and other staff working 
 in HE\, FE\, ACL\, VCS\, sixth form colleges\, work-based learning and muse
 ums and libraries.  It will give participants an opportunity to engage with
  the most recent policy and research developments that affect provision fro
 m strategic to operational levels from senior managers through to learners 
 and every member of staff working in the organisation.\n\n
