Description

1. Co-operative research programme funded by the Environment Agency with the University of Hertfordshire as principal contractor

2. NERC knowledge transfer network on mesoscale modelling for air pollution applications

Purpose of the meeting
The purpose of the meeting is to explore how potential users can benefit from comprehensive meteorological and air quality model calculations. One practical outcome is to identify realistic case studies to demonstrate the feasibility of models such as CMAQ, which could be integrated into current projects such as CREMO1/MESO-NET2. Resource issues related to input data bases and run times also need to be addressed. Regulatory needs are already a part of the CREMO work programme, but an important outcome should be the identification of applications relevant for UK policy which highlight potential future developments.

The day will start with presentation of results from simple models and how they could be improved using comprehensive models, or integrated with comprehensive model runs. The major part of the day will deal with applications and the testing of comprehensive models. Finally, there will be a discussion of policy needs which require the use of such models.
