Description

We may think of plastic surgery as a relatively new phenomenon but in fact Indian artisans were reconstructing noses using flaps of forehead skin as far back as 600BC. At this event we’ll discover the fascinating history of plastic surgery from Cleopatra bathing herself in lactic acid to give herself a full body peel through to the reconstructive surgery developed in response to the terrible injuries sustained in the two world wars. We will also explore the place of plastic surgery in society today and take a look at the bewildering array of treatments that now exist to keep ourselves looking ever youthful and delay the inevitable passage of time.

Nick Percival

Nick is a consultant plastic surgeon at the Institute of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and Charing Cross Hospital in London. He studied at University College Hospital, London before becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1984. He received his certificate of higher surgical training in plastic surgery in 1992 and was appointed consultant plastic surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital where he acted as the lead clinician for six years.

Since 1992 Nick has developed a cosmetic surgery practice in Harley Street. He undertakes a wide range of cosmetic procedures including breast augmentation, body contouring, rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation surgery but he has a particular interest in modern facelifting techniques. In 1998 he jointly formed Plastic Surgery Partners, a partnership dedicated to achieve the highest standards of care in cosmetic surgery in the UK.

Nick is a member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAPS) and was a member of the council of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPS) 2003-2005.
