Observer journalist Jo Revill has just written a book entitled Allergy Explosion on how and why allergies are increasing. She will be accompanied by Classic FM radio doctor and local GP Dr Rob Hicks, who will advise on prevention and show how our lifestyles can threaten our children’s health. Chaired by Alison Baverstock.
Biography – Jo Revill
Jo Revill has been Health Editor of the Observer for the last 3 years. She has also worked on the Evening Standard as Political Correspondent and also as Health Correspondent as well as the Sunday Times and the Mail on Sunday. She has written extensively on health and environmental issues and worked closely with medical organisations and NGOs such as the World Health Organisation. Jo has initiated and run several campaigns for the Observer, the first being on the subject of childhood obesity and the latest concerning the problems surrounding childbirth. Her first book, Everything You Need to Know about Bird Flu, was published in 2006 to critical acclaim and was serialised in The Times.
Biography – Dr Rob Hicks
Rob is one of the UK’s most prominent and well-known media-doctors. A practising GP he also works in a hospital sexual health clinic. He lives in Greater London with his family. A prolific health writer and medical journalist he has columns in Men’s Fitness and Prima Baby magazines. Rob is the author of two books – “Control your blood pressure: Keeping a lid on hypertension” and “Beat your allergies: Find relief, feel free”. Rob is a medical editor and medical writer for the BBC online health sites and is also the medical script adviser to the successful BBC television drama series “Doctors”. As a celebrity doctor Rob is a popular and entertaining public speaker who gives talks to consumer, professional and corporate audiences. An experienced presenter, he has fronted a number of corporate videos and been the spokesperson for many successful health campaigns. He is a medical adviser and communications consultant for a variety of organisations and is a highly respected media and communications trainer.
Biography – Alison Baversock
A publisher, she began to write about publishing and now, in addition to writing, teaches Creative Writing, Marketing and Publishing at Kingston University. Her particular speciality is writing about how to write and get published; Is there a book in you? and Marketing Your Book, An Author’s Guide have sold very well. She also writes about balancing work life and family, and is the co-author, with educator Gill Hines, of the bestselling Whatever! A Down To Earth Guide To Parenting Teenagers. She is regularly interviewed in the media about writing, publishing and parenting and has appeared on Richard and Judy, BBC Breakfast, Woman’s Hour and Bookshelf. She lives in Kingston with her husband and they have four teenage children.
