Description
The density matrix renormalisation group (DMRG) technique is a widely-used tool for 1D quantum systems, and we are far from the limits of its applicability to higher-dimensional systems.
In this student seminar I will briefly tour exact diagonalisation and numerical renormalisation group (NRG) techniques, before outlining the standard DMRG algorithm and its extensions to higher dimensions through matrix product states.
I hope to outline the work by Sugihara on the application of DMRG to a 1+1-dimensional scalar field theory, and by Byrnes et al. to the lattice Schwinger model.
