Description

With rising fuel prices, many people are finding it more difficult to keep warm in their homes, so there are now 4 million households suffering from fuel poverty in the UK. The Government has a legal obligation to eradicate the problem by 2016, but the numbers are continuing to rise. The causes of fuel poverty are highlighted in order to suggest some solutions.

Brenda is a Senior Research Fellow at the Environmental Change Institute, former head of the Lower Carbon Futures team and a co-director of the UK Energy Research Centre. Her research focus is on how to achieve demand reduction in energy across the UK economy, and in particular the built environment. She considers the behavioural, technical, economic and political issues of significantly cutting carbon emissions. Brenda was awarded an MBE in 1998 for her work on energy issues.
