Description
Our Director, Baroness Susan Greenfield, continues her role as Parkinson with IVF pioneer Lord Robert Winston in the hotseat.
Robert is Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College. His research in the 1970s led to the development of gynaecological microsurgery which was subsequently adopted internationally, particularly in the field of in vitro fertilisation. His current research looks into the use of stem cells to create tissues and organs for human transplantation to treat common degenerative diseases in humans.
Robert also plays a big role in the public engagement with science and is maybe best known for presenting many BBC television series including Superhuman, Child of our time and The human body. He speaks regularly in the House of Lords on a variety of topics and is author of several popular science books for adults and children alike. He has won numerous awards, including honorary doctorates from fourteen universities. Robert also has a deep interest in music. He is a keen saxophone player and has recently been appointed chairman of the Royal College of Music. In his spare time, if he gets any, Robert enjoys the theatre, skiing and sampling the wines of Bordeaux.
Come along to find out more about the life of one of Britain’s most eminent scientists.
