Description

A non-assessed course for beginners in the study of human skeletal remains. This is a practical class, involving the study of skeletons using the Museum of London’s enormous collection of human bones from archaeological excavations dating from the Roman period onwards. The course will cover basic skeletal anatomy and how age and sex are estimated from human skeletal remains. Participants will learn which bones are important to measure and what these measurements can tell us about physique and stature. The skeletons will be used to show health status, common diseases and trauma. There will be a focus on the analysis, identification and recording of human remains.

There will also be a visit to the Wellcome Trust in July 2008 to the ‘Skeletons’ exhibition. No previous knowledge is required.
