Description
Felicity Henderson
The story of twentieth-century science is inseparable from the lives of the scientists who made the discoveries that have shaped our world and our understanding of the universe. Biographies of scientists show us the human face of science: the motivations, set-backs, serendipities and moments of enlightenment in the quest for knowledge. Biography is therefore an important tool in explaining modern science to the non-scientific public.
This seminar will explore the practice of writing scientific biography. Speakers will discuss scientific biography for a general audience, the lives of scientists in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, and the experience of writing the lives of scientific colleagues.
