Description

Nonlinear realisations provide a method for constructing a field theory with an aribitrary symmetry group. Study of the coset symmetries of 11D supergravity dimensionally reduced on a torus suggested the conjecture that 11D supergravity can be formulated as a NLR of the infinite dimensional Kac-Moody algebra E11.

I will introduce NLRs, some aspects of Kac-Moody algebras, and then use this to demonstrate some supergravity calculations that are greatly simplified in the E11 approach. No previous knowledge of NLRs or KM algebras will be assumed.
