Description

The world is dynamic –spatial data models are static. This talk will discuss information-theoretic foundations upon which models of dynamic geographic phenomena can be based. At the heart is the crucial ontological distinction between “things” and “happenings” in the world.

The focus will be on topological change.

Additional information

During the first and second terms of each academic year, CASA hosts a weekly seminar in which PhD students and Research Fellows present their latest work. They vary in length between half an hour (where there are 2 speakers) to one hour and, because they take place between 5 – 6 pm, they are usually followed by a trip to a local pub. Unless otherwise indicated, all seminars take place in the Basement Lecture Theatre at 1-19 Torrington Place. Unless otherwise specified, there are no restrictions on who can attend. A weekly reminder is emailed each week, if you would like to be added to this email list, please contact Sarah Sheppard.
