Description
Energy Choices 2007 – the key end-of-year conference for the UK nuclear industry is dedicated to analysis and debate surrounding public opinion of our industry.
As 2007 draws to a close it will be remembered as a momentous year for the nuclear industry in the UK and around the world. Public and political views of our industry are now critical following May’s Energy White Paper, which once again underlined nuclear’s role as an essential part in delivering a low-carbon future for the UK. Key consultations on planning, justification, strategic siting of new nuclear power stations and on public opinion have been a feature of the year since the government’s confirmation that nuclear is key to the UK’s security of supply, and crucial as the only large-scale low-carbon source of electricity.
The decommissioning and waste management landscape has also undergone fundamental change and the role of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in a new competitive era, the breakup of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd, and the move forward to a longterm repository for nuclear waste are also vitally important areas for the future of the nuclear industry in the UK.
Energy Choices 2007 – the nuclear brand…opinion, attitudes, acceptance, is the flagship Nuclear Industry conference of the year. It will look at public opinion, how the nuclear industry communicates with its local communities, the media and other key stakeholders, and most importantly, how it could improve its profile at such a crucial time. The government’s wide-ranging public consultation will be debated, and there will be input from anti-nuclear voices and a specially-commissioned film detailing public perception of nuclear.
We are delighted to welcome the Rt. Hon. John Hutton to the conference along with other key speakers including Brian Cox from CERN, Bill Coley from British Energy, Murray Elston from the Canadian Nuclear Association and Terry Selby on the NDA’s communications challenge. There will also be a special BBC Question Time chaired by John Humphrys and speakers from the national broadcast media and leading communication specialists.
