In 2001 the British government committed the country to sourcing 10% of electricity supplies from renewable energy by 2010. The target was the cornerstone of the government’s strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to combat climate change. Through the Renewables Obligation utilities were legally bound to green energy supply goals.

Today, with just three years to go, there is unprecedented construction of renewable generation capacity and yet the 10% goal remains a long way off. Critics say the UK will miss the target by miles but if it does, what will this mean for domestic goals of 15% by 2015, 20% by 2020 or even more ambitious agreements coming out of Europe?

This conference will examine progress in green power generation and forecasts for the future. Senior industry speakers will address the challenges ahead and what the 2010 experience tells us about Britain’s ambitions for renewables.
