Description
The School For Gifted Children
Opens on 28TH November at Lowdown at The Albany, London
Doors 7.45 Show 8.15
The Book Club at the Albany is shutting down for awhile, too many paper cuts from cheap romantic fiction, so in its place comes The School For Gifted Children.
It will be a night of people enthusing about things they have found out about dinosaurs, nebulae, wig powder and that sort of thing, and some of it will be in song. It should be the best lecture you have ever been to, but all splintered and haphazard. It’s for people who like watching documentaries about ants with odd behaviour, books about rebellious librarians and who enjoy the idea of enthusiasm. It might be like a live version of Look and Learn, the popular children’s magazine of knowledge, though it might not, as this is its first time out, so who knows what will happen.
On the first night we will have Josie Long telling us what she has learnt about astronomy, Ben Moor talking about supercolliders, Martin White with something he hasn’t quite worked out yet which might include dancing, Darren Hayman (from the fabulous bands Hefner and The French) who is a keen fan of the ukulele and will sing some new songs he has made for his album, Dan Atkinson maybe talking about philosophy, Simon Munnery will do show and tell (we don’t know what he’ll show yet) plus Helen Zaltzman with a play and a xylophone and Martin Austwick singing songs of science and Robin Ince will shout about things he’s found out. Oh, and some other guests too who will be brilliant but are not confirmed as yet.
