Description
Sandra Hempel, journalist and copywriter specialising in health and social issues
In 1831 a horrifying and deadly disease from Asia called cholera arrived in Britain. In four major epidemics over the next 40 years, it was to kill 1000,000 people. Sandra Hempel talks about her book, The Medical Detective, which tells the story of the long battle to stop the disease from spreading, and of the reclusive doctor John Snow, who cracked the mystery of cholera nearly 20 years before it was finally conquered, but whose ideas proved too revolutionary for his time.
