Description
The initial colour conference, held in London in November 2003, was most successful. It was organised jointly by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, ThermoFluids Group, and the Linnean Society of London. The approach was completely trans-disciplinary. The proceedings were expanded and later published in a Special Full-Colour Issue of the Elsevier Journal ‘Optics & Laser Technology’ under the title ‘Colour and Design in the natural and man-made worlds’, Vol 38, Nos 4-6, June/September 2006.
Considerable interest resulted, leading to discussions for a second meeting, this time directed more strongly towards examples of where colour and pattern in the natural world could be used for the inspiration of engineers and designers. It was thought that there was still much more information on colour to be shared across disciplines.
