Description
Last year’s debate focused on climate change, a subject which quite rightly dominated the headlines. However, while this is still of paramount importance, are we losing sight of other factors which are having a detrimental effect on the environment – over-exploitation of resources, pollution, invasive non-native species, human populations, unsustainable tourism? Which ecosystem is most under threat and urgently needs protection? You will have a chance to decide in this year’s thought-provoking debate, featuring five critical areas; forest, mountain, freshwater, marine and polar regions – the last, represented by Professor Lloyd Peck of the British Antarctic Survey, being a particularly timely subject for debate in what has been designated International Polar Year.
