Description
Parliamentary launch event
A new exhibition on the bioscience of ageing will be launched at a parliamentary event in Westminster on Monday 12 November, with a focus on the research carried out by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Medical Research Council.
Ensuring that an increasingly ageing population stays healthy and mobile is a challenge both for the government and the scientific research community. Health and wellbeing are lifelong processes, and Research Councils UK spend over £80 million a year on ageing research, a broad and complex field encompassing both the ageing of individuals and the population, and the health and wellbeing of older people.
The exhibition and accompanying talks will describe how scientists are responding to the ageing challenge by researching the causes, prevention and treatment of age-related illness.
Speakers will include Research Council-funded researchers; patient and charity representatives and will be chaired by Lord Sutherland, chair of the House of Lords committee on scientific aspects of ageing.
