Description
Mr Simon Chaplin, Director of Museums and Special Collections, The Royal College of Surgeons of England
Two and half centuries after its original publication, Hogarth’s brilliant and savage depiction of the fate of Tom Nero still shapes our perception of 18th century anatomy. This lecture explores the truth behind the ‘shocking spectacle’ of the public dissections at Surgeons’ Hall, and reveals the shared fascination with anatomical exhibitions that linked artists, surgeons and the public in Georgian London.
