Description

Risk is a common experience acknowledged by many as an unavoidable part of our life. However, when it comes to financial transactions, trust, rather then risk, is what warrants and facilitates interaction, specifically for individuals. Both constructs, being differently understood by institutions and individuals add rather to decrease the confusion. Technology, with its complex relationship to trust and risk, is a dual-edge sword that is intensively affecting the area. The presentation discusses constructs of risk, trust and control from socio-technical perspective, combining advancement in technology with adjustment of social notion of risk and trust. By taking examples from financial industry, differences in the perception of risk and trust is identified to demonstrate how the technology can be used to improve (or damage) both. The unified conceptual framework guides the presentation.
