Description
DISCOVER WHY IRELAND IS NOT JUST AT THE FOREFRONT OF PHARMA AND BIOTECH MANUFACTURING, BUT NOW A HUB OF SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION
Ireland is fast becoming an exciting place to carry out research in the areas that underpin bioscience and bioengineering. Research in these disciplines will affect healthcare, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, environmental management, agriculture, marine science, medical devices, consumer goods and food and drinks businesses. Established in 2000, and funded by the Irish Government, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) provides awards to support Irish based scientists and engineers and invests in academic researchers and research teams who are most likely to generate new knowledge, leading-edge technologies and competitive enterprises in biotechnology and ICT. The SFI Biosciences & Bioengineering Directorate has already funded 124 research principal investigators and has commitments of approximately €290 million. Our key-note speaker, Dr. Lisa Higgins, is a Scientific Programme Officer in the Biosciences and Bioengineering Directorate. Dr. Higgins will be outlining the funding opportunities and supports available from SFI for scientists to undertake research in Ireland.
