Description

As part of the film season Documentary Centenary: A New Look at British Documentary at BFI Southbank in London this September, there are several programmes that highlight the history of science, technology and medicine:

The World is Ours: Television
Wed 26 Sep 18:20 NFT3

Television became the home of documentary, but few film documentarists transferred to the new medium. Rotha was a partial exception, running the BBC’s documentary department for two years from 1953. Norman Swallow’s 12-part series The World is Ours from this period marks the transition of documentary to the small screen. This screening provides a rare chance to see one of the rare surviving programmes, a well-made and engrossing film on the World Health Organisation’s work on infectious diseases. In The Projection of Britain, barely since 1954. Arthur Elton presents a history of the movement made for television.
