Description

The work of the Standing Committee of Analysts provides fundamental output which complements and supports that of the British Standards Institution in its work with CEN and ISO in the development of European and International standards respectively.

In its response to the public consultation on the draft amendment to the Drinking Water Quality Regulations, The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), amongst others, supported the requirement for a raw water monitoring programme provided it meets fully the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. It has been further observed that consequently some parameters will have to be measured at significantly lower concentrations than required for drinking water. The RSC also commented that this is likely to result in a need to develop new methods and/or instrumentation to meet these new demands.

The conference will identify what future development needs are likely to be and, by bringing its work to a wider audience, enhance the pool of expertise and resource available to develop new methods. The aims of the conference are to demonstrate how the SCA works to develop new methods of analysis; and identify current and future needs for new and improved methods. Of particuar importance are new methods arising from implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the proposed changes to Drinking Water Quality Regulations.
