Description
What does the future hold for the world’s civil and military aerospace markets? What will drive innovation in this sector of industry? How is Europe generally positioned in this globalizing, dynamic high-technology field? And which role for the British aerospace industry specifically? Challenging questions that call for answers from forward-thinking aerospace managers like Tom Enders. During his Sopwith lecture at the Royal Aeronautical Society, the CEO of EADS will specifically address how Europe’s aerospace industry is managing to keep the balance between an ever growing demand for new aircraft worldwide while at the same time endeavouring to ensure a sustainable use of resources.
Dr Thomas Enders, born on 21 December 1958, was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EADS in June 2005. Prior to assuming this position, Dr Enders served as CEO of the EADS Defence and Security Systems Division and as a Member of the EADS Executive Committee (2000 to 2005). From 1977 on he served with the 1st Airborne Division of the German Bundeswehr. Dr Enders completed the officer training and is now a Major in the army reserve forces. From 1982 to 1985, Dr Enders worked as an assistant in the German Federal Parliament and then, until 1987, as a Research Associate at the Research Institute of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in St. Augustin. From 1988 to 1990, he worked as a Research Associate at the Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Affairs in Bonn and as Senior Research Associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. From 1989 to 1991, Dr Enders was a member of the Planning Staff of the German Minister of Defence in Bonn. Having joined MBB/Dasa in 1991, Dr Enders served in various marketing posts before he became Corporate Secretary and Head of the Chairman’s Office at Dasa in 1995. Later on, he served for more than three years as Director Corporate Development and Technology at Dasa. In April 2005, Dr Enders was elected President of BDLI, the German Aerospace Industries Association. He took the chair of the Atlantik-Brücke e.V. in June 2005.
