Description
Heritage Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto Conference on 9 July in London
Heritage in this context has a delightfully broad definition, including botanical gardens, aquaria, zoos and science centres (and I guess Science Festivals and the like too). See below for more details about the conference and/or visit http://www.gem.org.uk/cpd/ntd/ntd070709.html. If your organisation hasn’t signed up to the LOtC Manifesto yet, visit http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/teachingandlearning/resourcematerials/outsideclassroom/ to read the Manifesto and then sign it!
Also consider making a pledge – if you do something already that meets the aims outlined in the manifesto or plan to do so in the future – this is your chance to tell people about it. The Manifesto covers 0-19s learning during formal and informal visits to a huge variety of spaces.
This one-day conference will give you an opportunity to find out more about the implementation of the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto across the heritage sector, and to debate and influence its development.
The aim of the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto is to ensure that all young people have a variety of high quality learning experiences outside the classroom environment, and to “make a difference” to the amount and quality of learning outside the classroom.
The heritage sector is defined here to include museums, libraries and archives; historic houses, sites and environment; local history; science and discovery centres; and zoos and aquaria. John Stevenson (Director,
GEM) has been asked by the DfES to represent the heritage sector on a national advisory group, and is developing a heritage sector partnership to encourage full participation, ownership and involvement in the drawing up of a manifesto action plan.
