Description
After over a year of hard work, preparations and installations, we can now finally announce the official joint opening day of the imaging facilities at Imperial College London / South Kensington: Our FILM for light microscopy and the Electron Microscopy Facility in the Biochemistry Building.
Luckily, we can offer an exciting program for the event. After a presentation of all the things on offer in both facilities, we have a snapshot of the lively research already going on, presented by actual users. Then we have a couple of talks by quite special invited speakers:
Prof. Bas Ploem from the University of Leiden has been working in microscopy for over 50 years, and during this time he has been very creative inventing all kinds of useful things, among them epifluorescence illumination and tools for correlative imaging (combined light and electron microscopy). In his talk he will tell us from his rich experience following the development of light microscopy from its early days. A special occasion – don’t miss it!
After learning how it all developed in the past, Dr. Daniel Studer from the University of Bern is then going to tell us where it will lead to in the future, how kyrofixation and electron tomography are increasing the power of electron microscopy, following the EM Centre’s motto “from molecules to cells”.
And eventually the rector, Sir Richard Sykes, will be in charge of the official opening, which of course will be celebrated with a drinks reception. And to make sure it’s celebrated properly, we will continue this with an opening party.
