Description
Geo-Environmental Engineering is an interdisciplinary area and is primarily an amalgam of Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Geo-Environmental Engineering evolved from the need to clean up hazardous waste sites using multidisciplinary approaches in the planning and implementation of groundwater and soil remediation. This is the second of two international symposiums that are to be held in Europe under the European Community’s ‘Asia-Link’ programme, the first one was WasteEng 2005 that was held at Albi, France. The aim of this symposium will be to present and discuss the most recent achievements in Geo-Environmental Engineering from all over the world and to listen to some of the experiences of engineers in China. The topics covered in this symposium will include the following:
> Recent progress in the geo-environmental field
> Geo-risk problems
> Waste containment and disposal technology
> Waste to energy
> Waste mechanics
> Application of geo-synthetics in geo-environmental engineering
> Contaminant transport and fate
> In-situ subsurface remediation technologies
