Description

TRICKY SITUATIONS WITH LEISHMANIA
Dr Robert Davidson, Northwick Park Hospital

TUBERCULOSIS - MAKING THE DIAGNOSIS
Professor Jon Friedland, Imperial College

FEVER IN THE DEPARTING TRAVELLER
Dr Alison Rodger, Imperial College & Northwick Park

This meeting will present a lively evening of clinical scenarios and applied conundrums. Rob Davidson will introduce issues relating to complicated presentations of leishmaniasis. Currently diagnosis of TB in resource-poor countries relies on direct microscopy which is insensitive and does not provide routine data on drug resistance. This lead to unnecessary deaths and spread of disease which may be drug resistant. MODS is a new diagnostic test based on culture with direct sensitivities at an affordable cost – might this be the way forward? Jon Friedland will expound. Alison Rodger/Geoff Pasvol will conclude with an entertaining and unusual story to tell – a surprise!
