The Working towards sustainability in existing buildings course offers an introduction to the issues that need to be confronted by organisations that seek to operate in a more sustainable way. It is oriented towards those who are responsible for, or wanting to:
• Understand how sustainable their organisation’s activities are.
• Quantify the environmental impact of their organisation’s activities.
• Develop a strategy to improve their sustainability.
• Prepare for future legislation, etc. that will require organisations to operate in a more sustainable way.
The aim of this course is to introduce the concept of sustainability by looking at simple examples of issues that any organisation is likely to be able to address that will lead to benefits for the organisation, its staff and the environment.
Aims of the course:
• Understanding what sustainability means and its significance for everyone.
• Awareness of the range of issues that affect the sustainability of a building.
• Knowing how to carry out an initial assessment of the sustainability of a building/organisation.
• Be able to present the case for improving the sustainability of a building/organisation.
