Description

Pietro Spanu, Biology Division, Imperial College London, presents this Plant and Microbial Sciences Seminar on “Transcriptomes and comparative transcriptomics of obligate pathogens: lessons from arraying the intractable”

Abstract: We believe that obligate pathogens such as the powdery mildew/Blumeria graminis/ have an absolute requirement for their host to
survive and complete their life cycles. This poses difficulties in experimental tractability but also raises very interesting and important
questions with regards to establishment of compatibility between hosts and microbes. In this talk I will present our recent data that helps us
to understand the biology of this fungus and sheds light on one of the most intimate inter-kingdom liaisons known.
