Description

Herbert Girardet is a social anthropologist and cultural ecologist. His main focus in recent years has been the sustainable development of cities and contemporary lifestyles. This lecture will summarise Girardet’s work as a Built Environment Fellow of the Royal Commission of the Exhibition of 1851 and as Director of Programmes of the World Future Council. The WFC is a global membership of wise thinkers, practical pioneers and young leaders, and acts by identifying the “implementation gaps” between current practices and necessary measures to assure a sustainable and equitable world. As an institution, the WFC represents humanity’s common values and provides an ongoing forum for debate and action, whilst challenging the short-term commercial thinking that currently has veto power over global decision-making. Herbert Girardet is a recipient of a UN ‘Global 500 Award for Environmental Achievements’.
