Today, Columbia University Medical Center announced the successful recruitment of a new faculty member. Dr. Charles S. Zuker will be joining the faculty effective July 1st, 2009.

Zucker is a taste biologist, primarily known for his work which identified various taste receptors, dispelling the myth that the tongue is broken up into regions that detect one type of flavor (such as sweet, bitter, or salty).

This is exciting news for me, particularly because I had previously posted about Zucker’s work that was discussed in an article in Scientific American a few months back.

But, I thought it may be useful to the entire New York scientific community to use this forum to post about new faculty recruits in the area. This will help keep readers informed about potential new collaborators, colleagues, and mentors.
