The best science events in London

Matt Brown

Tuesday, 17 Mar 2009 11:55 UTC

We’ve got a pretty good calendar of upcoming events for London, but I thought it would be good to have a space for people to recommend seminars, exhibitions and other upcoming stuff in the London area. Please contribute with your own suggestions here.

To start, I’d like to commend this free sciart exhibition at the British Institute of Radiology. Some excellent artwork, and a very quirky set-up. My review here. Ends 21 March.

    • Heads up. Michio Kaku is back in town at the end of May, and giving at least a couple of talks. Catch him at the Dana Centre on 27 May, talking about the physics of the impossible. Can’t make it? The following day he’ll be at the Royal Institution.

    • Hi Matt,

Just out of interest, over at Science File (http://www.sciencefile.org) we maintain the net’s largest calendar of UK science events, including those in London obviously. We add about 150 – 200 events each month, and if you register as a Science File member (which is free of course) you can add your own.

If you want to go straight to the monthly view, here it is:

      http://www.sciencefile.org/SF/index.php?option=com_events&Itemid=65

You can pass your mouse over an event to see a summary of it, or click on the event to view the full details.

We also have a huge wealth of other science reference material: 550 science newsfeeds, a huge web directory, science book reviews and articles written by members, a unique science news archive database plus a lot more.

I hope you find this useful!!

      Kind regards

    • For anyone interested in the science and art represented in film, the London branch of the British Science Association are launching their first drop-in sciSCREEN event on Saturday 20th June, 15:00-Midnight. Taking place in conjunction with the STK International Airport Saturday Stopover in Stoke Newington, this will be a provoking mixture of science, film and debate with comedy, music and dance.

We’re showing Who Killed the Electric Car and In the Shadow of the Moon, followed by discussion with Dr Kevin Fong, space expert from UCL.

Local artists and performers Transition Towns will be acting out their very own moon landing, followed by well-known comedian Nick Mohammed with his show ‘Apollo-21’.

You can find out more about the venue by going to www.stkinternational.co.uk, otherwise check out our leaflet and spread the word!
