MRC criticised over 'property speculation'

Interesting article in the Camden New Journal about development of the new medical research facilities along Euston Road.

You may recall that the Medical Research Council, UCL, the Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK want to build a UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation on a plot of land behind the British Library. And it’s controversial.

The scheme has Government backing and seems to be going ahead. But a rival site to the west, owned by the MRC, was also a possible location.

Now, the MRC have been ‘slammed’ (to use the tabloid vernacular), for holding on to the rival site, which some say should be developed into housing to compensate for the larger land use behind the British Library.
