Description

As science develops, so do opportunities for its misuse. In the 150 years since the publication of On the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin’s ideas have been used to justify programmes of enforced sterilisation, eugenics and even genocide. But what were the real links, if any, between Darwin and some of the worst atrocities in history?

Today, modern genetics allows us to screen our unborn children and build DNA databases of the population. These advances open up new and exciting possibilities, but at the same time raise difficult ethical questions and threaten a misuse of genetics. Join us in discussion as we consider the lessons of the past, the potential for the future, and ask if good science can ever go bad.
