April’s Book

The book selected for April is Experimental Heart by Jennifer L. Rohn and Professor Curry will chair proceedings for this month.

Experimental Heart
During his many long nights in the lab, scientist Andy OHara has plenty of time to wonder about the mysterious Gina, a fellow researcher he first glimpsed in a lit window across the courtyard. He doesnt realize she is consumed by her vaccine research, concerned about her biotech companys financial problems and about to become the prime target of animal rights activists. She is also distracted by a charming pharmaceutical mogul who offers funding for her work and a glamorous escape from her past romantic mistakes. But when Andy finally meets Gina, his monotonous life starts to unravel. Soon he becomes embroiled in an increasingly complex web of deception as he scrambles to reveal his rivals true intentions. When Gina gets in over her head, Andy is finally jolted out of his circumscribed little world. But is it too late? Is there a more sinister reason behind Gina’s involvement with the company? And is Andy ready to acknowledge that there is more to life than work? Set in London against a backdrop of modern molecular research, the journal Cell called Experimental Heart “an emotionally intelligent and suspenseful book…serious about scientific research even as it explores relationships.”
