Only one in ten of our cells is human – the rest are microbes and multicellular symbiotic organisms. Together, this blend of species forms the stable, living structure we think of as our body. The recently unveiled Wellcome Trust window installation, ‘Co-existence’, next door to Wellcome Collection, was inspired by this unseen universe of at least 2000 different species of microbe. Join the designer, Julia Lohmann, as she explains how she carried out the project and delved into the science as part of her research.
