Description

This popular and successful Summer School, supported by the Economic and Social Research Council, is intended for MPhil/PhD students registered at UK Universities who are undertaking research on topics relevant to public policy. You may, for example, be exploring the nature of policy issues or policy processes, comparing policy over time or between countries, analysing policy delivery or evaluating policy performance. The School is open to postgraduates from any discipline, working in any field of public policy. The School is run by the Centre for Evidence and Policy at King’s College London and led by the Centre Director, Professor Charlotte Humphrey.

The School has three aims:

a.. to enhance students’ perspectives on how policy is made and delivered in fields relevant to their research b.. to introduce students to the sources they will need to access for policy relevant research and the challenges these pose for researchers c.. to develop students’ skills in the methods and techniques appropriate to undertaking policy relevant research. The five-day programme comprises a mix of presentations by course staff, exercises (including discussion groups and hands-on practice with sources and methods), and seminars with expert outside speakers. Participants will receive a course pack with reference material for retention.

The School will be held at King’s College London’s campus at Waterloo in central London. Residential accommodation is not provided, but is available to book on campus in single en-suite study bedrooms for those who require it. All disability can be accommodated and most areas of the campus are accessible. Please indicate when applying if you have any form of disability and we can follow this up by an assessment of your needs. This prospectus and the course material can be made available in alternative formats (large print or on disc) if required.
