Description

Discover some of the intricate devices used by seamen to help navigate their ships from the 16th to 20th centuries. Starting with a guided tour to explain the importance of navigation, the session will offer an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and view some of the museum’s world-class collections up close. This will include some of the beautiful octants and sextants, as well as once common but now very rare pieces like the mariner’s astrolabe and cross-staff.
