Description

UrbanBuzz and Goldsmiths

We would like to invite you to our launch of the “Mobilising Knowledge” film and good practice guidelines.

The final dissemination event of the project “Mobilising Knowledge – Solving the Interaction Gap between Older People, Planners and General Citizens within the Thames Gateway” aims to create a debate on how planning and policy makers can ensure that planning processes involve and engage with London’s older people. We hope that you can contribute to the discussion!

The project sought to overcome knowledge barriers, as well as interdisciplinary barriers, through knowledge exchange in a summer school. Here artists, older people, planners and academics of different organisational cultures worked together. The Mobilising Knowledge summer school ran over three weeks in summer 2007. It was held at Goldsmiths, University of London and worked with 22 residents of Lewisham who were aged over 60. We aimed to create a space of dialogue between older people and policy and planning professionals in order explore older peoples’ experience of the city. The summer school explored future developments from the perspective of local older people through giving them new skills which they were able to apply immediately to their own experiences in Lewisham.

This space of dialogue has been captured by filmmaker Amanda Egbe and turned into the good practice guidelines and a toolkit by Dr. Alison Rooke and Gesche Wuerfel. The guidelines can be applied for future urban development schemes.
